Glass for sale

Welcome to my site on 20th century New Jersey glass! My name is Jim Davies and I am the owner and publisher of this site.

On this web site I am going to show some examples of glass paperweights from the  1800's to the late 1900's made in South Jersey. I personally collect and try to deal with mainly South Jersey glass.  On these pages I am going to be showing glass paperweights that are attributed to or are know to have been made in South Jersey.  There have been many different styles of weights made in this area.  Many of them have been copied in other areas of the country and it makes it very hard to be sure where a particular weight has been made.  If I have attributed a paperweight to a particular artist or an area such as Millville I have a good reason for it.

If you have information you are willing to share please contact me!  I love to hear from those that have knowledge and do not mind teaching others!

Most of these photos are pieces from my collection. If you think I have identified a piece wrong please let me know so we can discuss it and I can change it if need be. Also, if you have a piece of glass you would like to see added from your collection to my site let me know. If I choose to add it I will be sure to give you credit for that piece.

Please feel free to write me with questions and comments.

Thank you for your time and enjoy!

Hope you enjoy these pages!

A "DON'T FORGET YOUR FATHER" frit paperweight.  The lower level is glass chips in an umbrella style.  Ground, not polished,  where the pontil would have been and the top has a slight dimple from where the glass was held.  Millville area, 1860's to 1890's, 3 1/8" dia X 2 1/4" high

Weight was made in 1891.  This is probably the only weight I own that I can date to a specific year and only because it is marked in the weight.  Made with two layers of powdered glass chips, on the lower lever it is dated in black.  Polished pontil, possibly Millville area.  3" dia X 2 1/2" high

A devils Fire paperweight, but not the best I have seen.  Probably a mid 1900 weight, it has a rough pontil.  2 3/4" dia X 3" high.  Possibly Millville area.

A frit paperweight with "THINK OF ME" and a couple of daisy in it.  It has a fire polished pontil.  2 7/8" dia by 2" high.  Attributed to Millville, 1890 to 1912.

An un-usual weight made by Adolph Macho.  It is said that the pink insert is from a piece of Sandwich glass lamp.  Supposedly he had obtained a few lamps he cut up and used the designs inside the weight.  Only one other like this one is known.  Green bottle glass color.  3 3/8" dia. X 2 1/4" high.  Ground pontil

A great looking weight, footed with a fire polished pontil.  Made by August Hofbauer.  Stands 3 1/4" high and is 3 1/8" in dia.

"DON'T FORGET YOUR MOTHER" frit paperweight.  This attributed to Millville area.  It has a ground pontil dating it probably from 1860's to 1890.  3 1/4" dia by 2 1/2" high

Another "DON'T FORGET YOUR MOTHER" frit paperweight.  It has been attributed to Millville area.  This has a ground pontil dating it probably from 1860's to 1890.  3 1/4" dia by 2 1/4" high.  The glass chips in the base are in an umbrella style.
